extension-tab-frame - what's happening to OneNote?

So you create a new channel in Teams and the first thing you do is add a tab for a section in the Teams OneNote notebook (doesn't everyone?)...

So far, so good.

But when I create the new section for this Channel in the Teams OneNote notebook, for some reason it has decided to create a new page called 'extension-tab-frame'

Not the end of the world, but it does tell me a few things about Microsoft that I'm not sure I want to know.

OneNote was one of the best things to come out of Microsoft in years. OneNote 2016 combined with OneTastic was a real productivity booster. I used OneNote all the time and recommended it to clients, colleagues and friends (the true test of any software!).

Then came the Windows app - and it just wasn't as good. And you had to have everything on the cloud. Does anyone know where their notebooks are stored?

I still use the OneNote app (I know I can still have the 2016 desktop version, but that's not on the roadmap, so might as well jump ship now).

Teams is also a great product, albeit flawed in so many ways. Still, I use it and live with the limitations and idiosyncrasies, hoping my requests at UserVoice will be listened to.

When Teams/OneNote does weird stuff like creating a random 'extension-tab-frame' page, it tells me things aren't quite right.

Is it that Microsoft isn't testing products like it should (or used to)? Maybe now you just ship and crowdsource the problems. If it doesn't work, you have a big enough user base that people will get back to you soon enough to flag up a problem, then you can get to work fixing the bug.

Is it that the products are now so complex and with so many dependencies that no-one really knows what is going on?

Is Microsoft bolting on containerised elements to legacy systems with no support and seeing what happens?

Is it that no-one these days can call out poor code or ask why something wasn't tested properly or question those responsible for signing-off into production.

Is the 'ship-something' culture now so all-pervasive that we'll be seeing more and more of these kinds of weird things happening?

I'm not that fussed about a random page appearing in a OneNote Notebook. I just have to delete it and carry on with my day.

But it does make me wonder about what's happening behind the scenes at Microsoft - and under the hood.
